KANAKO moved to the United States in 2008. She worked for a year as an intern for Pat McGrath and four years as the primary assistant for Yadim before starting her independent career. Her work as a makeup artist has captured global attention, having been selected for the 2017 Dazed 100 and 2018 BoF 500.

She has received immense support from such renowned photographers as Mario Sorrenti, Juergen Teller, Richard Burbridge, Ethan James Green, Daniel Jackson, and Inez and Vinoodh, and has worked both advertising campaigns and backstage for brands such as Saint Laurent, Alberta Ferretti, Proenza Schouler, Helmut Lang, Area, Eckhaus Latta, A.P.C., and Louis Vuitton. Interviews with her and her work have appeared in media all around the world.

KANAKO has been appointed as ADDICTION's creative director from the Spring 2020 collection.
